About me

My love of linocut printmaking was sparked on an Introduction to Printmaking course at Leeds College of Art (now Leeds Arts University), where the print studio was run by Mick Welbourn. I went on to become a member of the Leeds Print Workshop, continuing my studies in relief printing and developing a self-taught practise in my home workshop in Horsforth, Leeds.

I grew up in the countryside of Norton, a small village on the South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire border, where nature was part of everyday life. I was extremely fortunate to grow up in a house called Priory Mill in Norton, an early 19th-century water-powered corn mill situated on the River Went. Summers spent outdoors, and a childhood immersed in the changing rhythms of the landscape fostered a deep appreciation for the natural world from an early age. Those experiences left a lasting impression and continue to inform my work as an artist.

Much of my printmaking, I feel, is a revisiting of those formative years - an exploration of the plants, places and moments that shaped my connection to nature. Through careful observation and intricate mark-making, I seek to capture not only the beauty of the landscape but also the sense of wonder, calm and belonging that it inspired in me as a child.

"Much of my work is driven by a fascination with our connection to nature and the quiet ways it enriches our lives. I am interested not only in the beauty of plants and landscapes, but in their ability to ground us, restore our attention, and provide moments of stillness in an increasingly busy world."

Nature has always been a source of inspiration and solace for me, and through my prints I hope to celebrate that relationship - encouraging others to slow down, look more closely, and experience the sense of wonder, calm and connection that the natural world can offer.
